Quartier Heidestrasse development in Berlin gets a new look

The heart of the new quarter will be based on designs from Berlin architectural firm Robertneun Architekten. The 9,500 square meter site will feature 170 apartments, retail outlets, cafés and offices. "Robertneun has designed an extremely confident target building that evokes the site's industrial past," said the Berlin Senate's Building Director, Regula Lüscher, after the competition result was announced.

Seven leading architectural firms submitted designs. After the first sitting of the judging panel in December 2016, third place was awarded to AllesWirdGut from Vienna. Robertneun Architekten and gmp von Gerkan, Marg und Partner from Berlin were jointly awarded first prize, with the recommendation that they refine their designs for a further assessment. In the final meeting, the judging panel then selected Robertneun Architekten.

The Quartier Heidestrasse will feature a total gross floor area of around 175,000 square meters of commercial and retail space, as well as some 860 apartments. Thomas Bergander is General Manager of the Quartier Heidestrasse GmbH. Taurecon Real Estate Consulting, which he founded, is operating as investor, while Drees & Sommer is managing the overall construction project.
