BBC, London

Drees & Sommer UK was engaged by the BBC to deliver an 11,000m² new global headquarters for BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the Corporation, at the iconic Television Centre in London. The project was part of the implementation of the BBC’s long term real estate strategy.

Our firm worked with both BBC Worldwide as tenant, and BBC Commercial Holdings as landlord with budget oversight, to deliver this project. Drees & Sommer was the appointed project manager and facility management consultant. The project entailed full strip-out, significant asbestos abatement, major structural works and high quality interior fitout. A new steel sub-structure was built to support a central atrium that cut through the existing concrete slabs.

The reconfiguration of the space enabled the BBC to realise its strategic objective of creating a new office that supported agile working and created collaborative work settings. This was achieved by creating dynamic workspaces with exposed services and increased floor to ceiling heights – connected via a signature staircase. The project integrated a considerable quantum of new technology to empower agile working and promote the BBC’s media content. The result is a stunning new headquarters for a British institution.
